Queen Elizabeth Wildlife Park Uganda
At 1978 km2, Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda’s second largest and lies at the southern end of the Rwenzori Mountain range in western Uganda, presiding over bush grasslands that are home to large numbers of wildlife. Features within the park include; a launch trip on the Kazinga Channel - a strip of water joining the park’s two large lakes, spectacular game driving in the crater lake area. since Uganda’s return to stability in the mid 1980’s, the numbers of game have increased dramatically and visitors can easily expecte to see elephants, buffalo, hippo (the Kazinga Channel has one of the highest concentrations of hippo in Africa), lion, the endemic Uganda Kob and with luck leopard, which although they are in the park in large numbers, are difficult to spot due to their nocturnal and shy nature. The bird life is also spectacular, with saddlebill storks, fish eagles, cormorants and kingfishers to name but a few.
With more time available it is also possible to visit Ishasha in the southern sector corner of the park for a more remote view of an African safari. and home to the tree climbing lions. it ensures the visitor a more “off the beaten track” game driving environment.
Both the northern end of the park, and Ishasha have airstrips allowing for their inclusion on flying safaris. Ishasha is also used for flying safaris to Bwindi as it is the most conveniently located landing strip.
